A Look at the World’s Most Abandoned and Forgotten Places
4. The Fort of Maunsell Sea
Out in the ocean, you can find a cluster of rusty fortresses that resemble a group of Imperial walkers ready to fire lasers onto the coastline. These Maunsell Fortresses were constructed in 1942 during WWII and linked by a slender metal bridge. Initially, there were three of the structures, but now only two remain. Each one is made up of seven buildings encircling a central tower. The third fortress was destroyed by a storm and then broken up by a vessel before it was taken away in 1959. In the 1960s and 1970s, the other two were utilized as pirate radio stations.
