In 1908, a black worker found a diamond in the area, prompting Germany to build a city that was only based on diamond mining. The original miners were given tremendous salaries, and the city was given a medical facility, theater, streetcars, and casinos. However, after WWI, the diamond resources were completely used up, resulting in the closure of mining. By 1954, the city had been completely deserted. Since then, many visitors, especially photographers, have traveled there to take pictures. The desert’s recovery of the city has been recorded in numerous outstanding photos.
